Although Summer officially begins today, after 6 days worth of Excessive Heat Warnings it's already felt every bit like it. A slight shift in the pattern will take an edge off of the temperatures and open the door for the possibility of showers and storms, mainly late tonight through early Friday morning. Hot and dry conditions rapidly return for the weekend, and much of next week.

Excessive Heat Warning has been extended for Houston and many surrounding areas until 8 PM Wednesday. Heat Index values of 108-116 will be likely. Heat Advisory will be in place through 8 PM Wednesday for Liberty, Polk, San Jacinto, Coastal Jackson & Coastal Matagorda counties. It also includes the Matagorda Islands & Brazoria Islands. Heat index values here could get up to around 110 on Wednesday. Temperatures will climb close to triple digits again Wednesday. But the weather pattern will make a slight shift to allow a few more showers and storms Wednesday through Friday. So that means we'll be a bit less hot for Thursday & Friday. Tropical Weather Forecast - June 20, 2023

Tropical Storm Bret is no longer forecast to become a hurricane but still may threaten parts of the Lesser Antilles by Thursday. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Barbados. Bret now has winds around 45 mph and is moving west towards the Caribbean Sea. Another tropical wave in the Central Atlantic has a high chance to become a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next few days. The next name on the list would be Cindy. At this point, Bret is forecast to dissipate before it would make it anywhere close to Houston.

More scorching heat is on the way today with an excessive heat warning in effect through 8pm this evening. There is a chance for a few storms east of Houston today and a chance for isolated storms through Friday, but heat will still be a big issue. This weekend is going to be sizzling again. In the Atlantic, a rare June tropical storm is moving through an area more typical for August storms, but nevertheless will be a slight hazard for the Caribbean by Friday and Saturday.

Heat index values of 108 to 115 are possible which will continue to make it dangerous and uncomfortable to be outside. Heat advisory continues for Coastal Jackson, Coastal Matagorda, Matagorda Islands & Brazoria Islands until 8pm Tuesday. Heat index values could be as high as 110. Triple digit temperatures are likely for the next few days with high humidity. This means you should continue to drink plenty of water, avoid exercising outside from 11 AM - 6 PM, take breaks in the shade if you have to work outside and check your car for kids and pets before you walk away. It will still be hot Thursday through Saturday but should stay below triple digits. Slight relief is also possible in the form of a few rain showers Tuesday through Friday. Triple digit temperatures are set to return early next week!

Tropical Weather Forecast - June 19, 2023

Things are heating up in the tropics! Tropical Depression Three is now Tropical Storm Bret and has formed in the central Atlantic. Movement is west at 21 mph with 40 mph winds. Bret should approach the Lesser Antilles later in the week. This system is forecast to become a hurricane by Wednesday with 75-80 mph winds. Another Tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic has a medium chance to become a Tropical cyclone over the next few days. Both of these systems are several days out from any potential US impact.
