Houston weather: Spotty showers possible on Tuesday

Houston and Southeast Texas can expect temperatures to soar again Tuesday. Highs in Houston are forecast to reach the upper 90s. Feels-like temperatures could reach as high as 107 degrees. There is no active Heat Advisory, but it is very important to stay safe in this heat. Drink plenty of water, take breaks inside with a/c, reapply sunscreen and always remember to look before you lock your vehicle.

Tracking Hurricane Erin in the Atlantic | Forecasting with Friends

Allison Gargaro talks about Hurricane Erin as it continues to churn across the Atlantic and over the weekend grew to this season's first major hurricane of the season, becoming a Category 5. Erin is set to make a curve off to the northwest and then off to the northeast later on this week. We are also monitoring a tropical wave in the Atlantic that now has a 50% chance for further development over the next seven days.

Tropical Weather: Hurricane Erin, other developments - Aug. 17 update

Hurricane Erin continues to churn in the Atlantic as it passes north of Puerto Rico, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Tropical storm warnings are now in effect for the Turks and Caicos Islands and for the Southeast Bahamas. There are two other areas in the Atlantic with the chance for further development. We are also watching a tropical wave near the west coast of Africa over the next several days. Right now, the national hurricane center is giving it a low 30% chance for development.

A plume of tropical moisture is still in place for our area for Saturday evening. Beginning Sunday and continuing through all of next week, look for hot and humid summer air with a daily round of showers.

Hurricane Erin upgrades to Category 5

Erin is now a catastrophic CAT 5 hurricane. Maximum sustained winds have reached 160 mph. The latest advisory from NHC shows Erin will likely stay a major hurricane through early next week as it moves between the east coast of the U.S. and the island of Bermuda.

Beginning Sunday and continuing through all of next week, look for hot and humid summer air with highs in the mid to upper 90s. The outlook is a bit random with a daily round of afternoon showers and storms expected, but with periods of hot sunshine in between. Our extended models are very mixed with timing and coverage of rain, but isolated afternoon storms make sense in this pattern. Also, heat index values could reach 105 each day next week.
