Not much of a surprise, but the Fourth of July is starting off on the the muggy side. Rain chances will rise throughout the morning into the afternoon with our best chance of rain arriving after 12PM, but before 8PM. Highs will remain below average, topping off in the upper 80s. Rain should clear before fireworks this evening, but our high rain chances persist throughout the work week.

More showers are likely well into the coming week. The best chance for rain comes with the heating of the day, but we could still get some rain off and on just about anytime until the end of the week. Not the best news for the 4th of July.

Houston-area weather forecast: July 3rd

Showers and storms looking like a pretty good bet for this Fourth of July holiday weekend. If you're hoping to have dry time over the next couple of days, you'll get it but it might be short-lived. Our best chances for rain each day will be in the afternoon. It does appear, as we look toward Sunday evening, there might be a break in the rain for those interested in shooting off some fireworks. Keep in mind though, rain will be around as we keep those chances high even into next week.

Friday Evening Weather Forecast

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected this weekend as a front moves into southeast Texas. Not all of the holiday plans will be washed out but many will be impacted, so have a backup plan for outdoor activities. Look for more rainy days as this will start a rainy pattern lasting several days.

A wet holiday weekend?

As we watch this surprising Hurricane Elsa in the Caribbean, our concern is for weekend storms and the close call for Fourth of July fireworks. Temperatures will be hot today as a summer front slowly approaches from North Texas. That system is likely to bring off and on weekend storms and a generally unsettled pattern through next week, too.

Friday weather forecast

Quiet this morning, then warm and humid with late day and evening storms. Highs in the low to mid 90s.

Friday morning weather forecast

Another warm and mostly dry day on Friday. There's a good chance for some rain around Houston but it will come after the peak of the daytime heating in the afternoon. A front approaches Southeast Texas late on Friday and stalls keeping rain in the forecast all weekend. Not all of the outdoor holiday plans will be washed out but definitely prepare for some interruptions. Be safe if you are outside and lightning is in your area. Tropical Storm Elsa is in the Atlantic and should head towards Florida and the eastern Gulf.

Thursday weather forecast

Tropical Storm Elsa has formed in the tropical Atlantic and is more than 3,000 miles from Texas. Its current track takes it into the Caribbean and eventually toward Florida next week, but we?ll just have to see how it interacts with the Caribbean islands and whether that disrupts its development. At this point, our local concerns are much more on weekend storms than Elsa.

Wednesday morning weather forecast

The rest of the week is looking drier and warmer but confidence is growing that the weekend will be rainy in Southeast Texas. The whole weekend will not be washed out but it will definitely require changes to some outdoor celebrations. The rainy pattern looks to continue into the start of the work week as well.

Rain in the forecast and a tropical cyclone in the Gulf?
video

Potential Tropical Cyclone Five has been identified in the Atlantic. This system should become Tropical Storm Elsa in the next 24hours. It does look like this storm will make it into the Gulf of Mexico but for now it looks to be staying over in the eastern side mostly impacted Florida.

Wednesday weather forecast
video

One last day of the current rainy pattern for Southeast Texas. Houston should expect less rain for the end of the week but another round of storms will be possible again Wednesday afternoon. A weak front will stall over the weekend providing chances again for showers and storms. It's still too early to pinpoint timing so stay connected to see how your fireworks will be impacted.

It's not time to cancel outdoor plans yet, but you may need to start considering some indoor options for the July 4th Celebrations.
