HOUSTON (AP) — Nick Mullens tied a single-game program record before the first half was over with five touchdown passes, and Southern Miss beat Rice 65-10 on Saturday. Mullens finished 23 of 31 for 386 yards, five TDs and no interceptions before giving way to backup Tyler Matthews when the score was 52-0 late in the in the third quarter.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin certainly wasn't happy that his team was tied with Western Carolina in the second quarter on Saturday night. He was, however, encouraged by the way the Aggies responded after that. Kyler Murray threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns and Texas A&M shook off a slow start to cruise to a 41-17 win over Western Carolina.

West Virginia topples Texas 38-20

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia's days of slinging the ball all over the field in the Big 12 seem to be over for now, and the Mountaineers don't mind it a bit as long as they keep winning. Skyler Howard threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score, and Wendell Smallwood rushed for 165 yards to lead West Virginia to a 38-20 win over Texas on Saturday.

NFL plans to increase security inside and outside stadiums

NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL says it will increase security inside and outside its stadiums for Sunday's games, two days after the Paris terrorist attacks. Spokesman Brian McCarthy said Saturday that there will be more security and law enforcement personnel at the venues and in parking lots, along with other added security measures. A league statement says it has been told by the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI "that there are no known threats against NFL stadiums."

DENVER (AP) — Ty Lawson hoped for a triumphant return to Denver. Danilo Gallinari and Will Barton made sure it wasn't a pleasant homecoming. Gallinari had 27 points, Barton scored a career-high 26 points and the Denver Nuggets beat the Houston Rockets 107-98 on Friday night to spoil Lawson's return. Kenneth Faried added 14 points and 11 rebounds for Denver.
