Tropical Weather Forecast - July 13, 2023
video

Waters in the Gulf, Caribbean & Atlantic are unusually warm which could be a big problem as we get closer to the most active part of hurricane season. That would be August and September. Right now Saharan dust is hindering major tropical development in the Atlantic Basin but that is expected to change over the coming weeks. There is one system in the central Atlantic 900 miles east of Bermuda that could become TD #5 or Tropical Storm Don over the next few days. But it is expected to stay away from the US as it tracks north. In the eastern Pacific, Calvin has become the third hurricane of the eastern Pacific season and could get close to Hawaii by the middle of next week bringing higher waves and heavy rain.

A Heat Advisory will be in effect until 9 PM Saturday. That means we all need to prepare for more scorching temperatures near 100 and heat index values that could be 110+. A big heat dome over west Texas will continue to dominate our weather pattern the next several days making it difficult for any major rain chance. The high may shift enough to allow for isolated rain Sunday through Tuesday. But even then, rain chances are only around 10%. So remember to practice heat safety by limiting time outside during the hottest part of the day and drinking plenty of water. Also remember to look before you lock. Never leave kids or pets in a closed hot car. Make sure to download our FOX 26 Weather App to keep track of the heat wave and any chances for rain!

Rain & storm chances increase a bit by Sunday & Monday and even then it will only be isolated. Stay safe in the heat!

Tropical Weather Update - July 25, 2023

A decent amount of Saharan dust continues to hover over a big part of the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico & the Caribbean. This will hinder any rapid development of tropical cyclones as drier air is pulled into the atmosphere. However, there are three tropical waves with a very low chance for development over the next 2-7 days. One tropical wave is in the eastern Caribbean, one is a few hundred miles south of Bermuda and the other is in the far east Atlantic.

Tropical storm Don continues to go around in circles in the north-central Atlantic. It will remain over the water and impacts should be minimal. Another tropical wave farther south in the eastern Atlantic has a low chance for development over the next 7 days as it moves west towards the central Atlantic. \The Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean remain quiet for now with Saharan dust bringing in some drier air. A disturbance in the eastern Pacific has a decent shot to become a tropical depression or storm over the next few days. The next name for the Atlantic basin would be "Emily" and for the Eastern Pacific "Dora".
