Mekenna Earnhart joined the FOX 26 team in January 2026, marking a true homecoming for the Houston native.
A proud product of Northwest Houston, Mekenna’s roots run deep. She attended Yeager Elementary and Bleyl Middle School before graduating from Cypress Creek High School in 2020. Having spent nearly her entire life in the "713," she is no stranger to the city’s unique rhythm, or its unpredictable weather. Mekenna knows that in Houston, a little rain (or a lot of it) is just part of the local charm.
Mekenna’s journey into journalism began with a childhood ritual, watching the local news with her mom and dad every morning before school. That early spark turned into a lifelong goal to report for the community that raised her.
Mekenna’s passion for storytelling took her to the University of Arkansas, where she majored in Broadcast Journalism.
After graduation, Mekenna began her professional career as a reporter and anchor at KLBK/KAMC in Lubbock, Texas. There, she covered everything from major severe weather events to community-driven human-interest stories, building a strong foundation in local journalism.
When she isn’t chasing a story, Mekenna is likely making up for lost time in the Houston food scene. After years away, she is on a mission to rediscover the city’s best hidden-gem restaurants.
Mekenna firmly believes that the best stories come from the people she meets. If you see her out in the community, please come say hello!

Houston’s new homeless ‘Super Hub’ branded as national model for ‘self-sufficiency’
Mayor Whitmire and federal HUD officials finalized a $314 million investment today to launch a "Super Hub" in the Second Ward, a low-barrier facility designed to transition 1,000 homeless individuals into self-sufficiency annually. The project moves away from traditional "Housing First" models by prioritizing 24/7 security and "wraparound" services, while also using $100 million of the grant to install industrial backup power for citywide storm resilience.
