HEAT ADVISORY continues until 10 PM Wednesday for Houston and surrounding areas. Plan on high temperatures near triple digits through the end of the work week with heat index values near 108-110. By this weekend and next week, the heat dome shifts west enough to allow for slightly cooler temps, more clouds and a better chance for showers and storms. Best chance for rain appears to be Sunday afternoon and evening with spotty rain and isolated thunder expected for Monday and Tuesday PM.

No big surprises in today's forecast - still very hot and humid and again a heat advisory is in effect. The heat dome that's been dominating our weather for most of the past month will briefly shift westward this weekend, so we may have a few storms, but next week, the big ridge of high pressure is expected to take hold again.

HEAT ADVISORY remains in effect until 10 PM Tuesday for all of SE Texas. That means combined temperature and humidity values could result in "feels like" temps around 108-112 which is still in the danger zone. So continue to practice heat safety by drinking lots of water, taking frequent breaks while working outside, checking on sick and elderly neighbors, and checking your car for kids and/or pets before walking away. We remain stuck in the same weather pattern through the end of the work week with highs near 100 and heat indices 108+. Weather pattern shifts a bit this weekend with high pressure sliding west. This will allow for more clouds and better rain and storm chances, especially by Sunday and Monday. So hang on....some relief is possible this weekend! The Heat Advisory has officially been extended to the end of the weekend. Plan for more Heat Alerts this week as the current heat wave stays over Southeast Texas through at least Thursday. There may be a stray shower around this Sunday but Houston will not see any helpful rain until next weekend.

Houston Weather: Heat advisory in effect through Saturday evening
video

A copy-paste forecast with lots more hot, humid, dry and breezy days on the horizon. An area wide Heat Advisory is in effect through Saturday evening for now. Early next week there is a very slim shot at a few isolated showers, but I wouldn't bank on any meaningful rain. In the Atlantic Subtropical Storm Don formed early this morning, our 4th named storm of the season. It is very far north, and poses no threats to land. In the Pacific, Calvin becomes the first major hurricane of the season in either basin. Currently a Cat 3, moving NNW and may eventually bring remnants to Hawaii. @digital

Tropical Weather Forecast - July 17, 2023

Tropical Depression Don remains in the central Atlantic basically making a big loop and is not a threat to land at this time. It is forecast to become a tropical storm by Wednesday. Calvin is now a tropical storm in the Central Pacific and could be a threat to the big Island of Hawaii by Wednesday. Things remain quiet in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico but the busiest part of hurricane season is right around the corner. So take time to review your hurricane plan and make sure you are ready!

Brace yourselves for lots of triple digit days with slightly drier air and a southwest wind. Our heat dome has wobbled west just enough to open up the door for a few isolated showers mainly east of town today. But, it will work its way east again, intensifying the heat and bringing rain chances back down to zero for most of the week. By next weekend, things look to shift again enough to possibly tone temps down somewhat and work shower chances in once again.

Southeast Texas will see several days of triple digits as we move into this week. Don't look for any rain until the end of the week. Hopefully the common summertime isolated afternoon thunderstorm will make a return to the forecast. The heat alerts should continue through most of the week. For now, the Heat Advisory runs through Monday evening.

Don is still struggling in the Atlantic. The Subtropical Storm has weakened slightly but should stay around for several more days.

The Heat Dome will have firm grip over Texas through midweek, so things will get worse before they get better. As we near the weekend, it will shift west again taking a slight edge off of the temperatures and we're tracking our most promising rain chance in weeks on Sunday. Don and Calvin continue to weaken in the tropics, but a new robust wave is forecast to move off the coast of Africa into very warm ocean waters. Just something to watch, for now.

The pattern isn't budging for now, so expect more of the same. A "rinse and repeat" forecast, but... very much without the rinse. The 10% rain chance early next week is optimistic at best. Anything that does fall would likely be east of I-45, very isolated and barely accumulating. Heat Alerts will likely continue, and although we have one named storm in the Atlantic it isn't coming anywhere near us or any land mass.
