After 16 days straight of heat advisories, we are finally getting a break. It will still be hot this week with temperatures close to 100 but the humidity will be a little lower to keep heat index values below advisory criteria. Look for isolated showers and storms every afternoon and evening with a few heavy downpours possible. The Saharan Dust is building in to SE Texas but is not expected to cause major air quality issues at this point. But if you have asthma or other respiratory problems, the dust may be a bit of a nuisance and irritant. But most folks will not be impacted.

Finally, we have a decent chance for showers or storms in the forecast, but unfortunately the overall heat wave is not going to break. Today will be hot with a slight chance for a late day shower. With a light west wind Saturday, temps could spike into the low 100s before our best chance for storms late Saturday and through Sunday. Next week - more highs near 100.

One last day of Heat Advisories for Southeast Texas. Hopefully the expected rain chances for Sunday will help keep the temperatures down slightly. Look for a more typical summer pattern across Houston for next week with hot afternoons with a slight chance of a shower/storm popping up.

A shift in the location of the "heat dome" allowed a front to move in yesterday and it should remain stationary over the Houston area today. Expect another hot day, but with scattered afternoon and early evening storms. The upcoming work week looks mostly sunny and hot with daily highs in the upper 90s and an isolated storm or two possible each day

HEAT ADVISORY has been extended AGAIN until 10 PM Friday. That means dangerous heat index values around 108-112 are still possible. So make sure to stay hydrated, take breaks while working outside and check on your sick and elderly neighbors. Also, make sure your pets are hydrated and their paws are protected. Temperatures remain hot in the middle to upper 90 through the middle of next week. But at least the pattern will shift enough this weekend to allow for some widely scattered showers and storms during the afternoon and evening. So hopefully you get a little rain in your backyard! Parts of the Houston area may need a Heat Advisory for Monday but it will not be widespread. That is good news that Southeast Texas is seeing a slight drop in temperatures. Mostly that is because the "heat dome" is further west allowing for more clouds and pop up afternoon thunderstorms. Look for a round of Saharan dust to put some haze in the Houston skies on Tuesday and Wednesday.

We finally have a decent chance for showers in the forecast, but overall the heat wave is not going to break. Houston is expecting mostly hot and sunny weather with a slight chance for a late-day shower. With a chance of light west wind for Saturday, temps could spike into the low 100s.

A shift in the huge heat dome we've had over Texas for most of the past month should allow some storms by late today. Watch for highs today to possibly spike to the low 100s, but scattered storms are expected off and on from late afternoon through Sunday. Despite the chance for storms, our heat wave isn't really breaking. Highs should remain in the upper 90s through next week.

The Heat Advisory continues for Southeast Texas, now running through Sunday evening. The heat dome has shifted west just enough to allow for some isolated to scattered showers Saturday night and all day Sunday. The temperatures have only been impacted slightly with afternoon highs next week in the upper 90s.

HEAT ADVISORY has been extended through 10 PM Thursday for all of SE Texas with heat index values of 108-112 still likely. We will remain stuck in this stagnant weather pattern through the end of the work week with little relief in sight. Slight pattern change is in store for the weekend and early next week as big area of high pressure near west Texas shifts west. That will allow for a few more clouds and a better chance for spotty showers and storms this weekend. It will still be hot but hopefully the rain will provide some temporary relief from this relentless heat wave. Another sunny, hot, dry day is in store for Thursday with a Heat Advisory in effect through at least 10pm. While daytime winds will be light, there should be a bit more of a breeze around in the evening hours. Small shifts are on the horizon long term, but include a slight decrease to daytime temperatures with at least an opportunity for isolated showers and storms beginning this weekend through early next week. Don keeps doing circles in the north Atlantic, and a new wave may gradually develop over time farther south.

Our long heat wave will continue for the rest of the workweek, but changes are possible by this weekend. In the meantime, expect highs near 100 today through Friday with another heat advisory today and tomorrow. This weekend, the heat dome shifts to the western US which could open the door for scattered showers and storms for the Houston area. Also, you may notice more haze in the sky today due to some Saharan dust blowing in.

HEAT ADVISORY continues until 10 PM Wednesday for Houston and surrounding areas. Plan on high temperatures near triple digits through the end of the work week with heat index values near 108-110. By this weekend and next week, the heat dome shifts west enough to allow for slightly cooler temps, more clouds and a better chance for showers and storms. Best chance for rain appears to be Sunday afternoon and evening with spotty rain and isolated thunder expected for Monday and Tuesday PM.

Tropical Weather Forecast - July 19, 2023

Tropical Storm Don has gotten a little stronger out in the north central Atlantic with 45 mph winds as it moves west. It will eventually turn NW but is expected to remain over the water. Another tropical wave still close to Africa has developed in the eastern Atlantic with only a 20% shot for development over the next 7 days. Calvin is no longer a tropical cyclone as it has become post-tropical as it pulls away from the big Island of Hawaii. Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean remain quiet for now.

A heat advisory is in effect again through 10 p.m., but some subtle changes are on the way. A huge heat dome still stretches across the country from California to Florida but will weaken over the Houston area from late Friday through Monday, so scattered showers and a few storms are possible. Hot, humid weather is still expected, but with some temporary cool-downs. Otherwise, you may notice some haze in the air - there is a light layer of Saharan dust in place across the Gulf Coast.
