Houston weather: Mostly sunny and hot Thursday; slim rain chances

Today is not only the first day of hurricane season, but also the start of what is known as "meteorological summer" - the three warmest months of the year. Look for very warm afternoons through Saturday with highs in the low 90s and slim rain chances. Beginning Sunday through most of next week, low pressure moves in and should keep our weather pretty unsettled with a daily chance for storms.

Houston weather: Toasty temperatures on the way for the rest of the week

Air quality alert for the Houston area has also been extended until Thursday evening. Hotter and drier weather pattern returns for a few days which will mean temperatures in the low 90s Thursday through Saturday with very limited rain. That will be a great time to squeeze in some pool or park time. But make sure to wear sunscreen with a high UV index likely. Upper low returns early next week which will mean a return to more storms Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Hotter weather to close out first week of June with spotty showers

Spotty storms are once again breaking out during the heating of the day. Brief heavy rain, frequent lightning & gusty winds will be possible through early tonight. Most of the storms should fade a few hours after sunset. The air quality alert has also been extended until Thursday evening. A hotter and drier weather pattern returns for a few days which will mean temperatures in the low 90s Thursday through Saturday with very limited rain. That will be a great time to squeeze in some pool or park time. But make sure to wear sunscreen with a high UV index likely. Tropical Weather Forecast - May 31, 2023

Hurricane season begins on Thursday, June 1st and we are already off to a busy start. We are monitoring a disturbance in the eastern Gulf of Mexico that has a low shot to become a tropical system over the next few days (20%). Whether it develops or not, it is expected to bring some heavy rain and gusty winds to a big chunk of the Florida Peninsula. This is the only system of concern at this time.

Hurricane season begins Thursday, but hot and dry weather closes out the week

Today will be very similar to the past few days where some will see some afternoon scattered showers and storms, a few of which may be on the feisty side. Closing out the work week and heading into the weekend hot and mostly dry, then next week things look to take a turn to the soggy side. Hurricane Season begins tomorrow, and our daily tropical briefings have resumed. One area is being monitored with low chances for development in the eastern gulf, with no impacts to us but it will bring heavy rain to the Florida peninsula throughout the weekend.

Houston weather: Warm Wednesday with isolated afternoon storms

Hurricane season begins tomorrow and it's also the time of year when we really heat up. Look for highs in the upper 80s and low 90s through Saturday with the best chance for pop-up storms this afternoon. Next week looks bumpy with an area of low pressure bringing a daily round of storms from Sunday through at least Tuesday.

Spotty rain storms tonight, more possible Wednesday evening but less widespread

Our Ozone Action Day is back for Wednesday with another Air Quality Alert being issued for Harris, Brazoria & Galveston counties. That means air quality will be in the unhealthy for sensitive groups category and you may want to reduce your amount of time outdoors if you have respiratory issues. Otherwise, look for spotty rain and storms through early tonight, gradually fading. Storms may produce some very heavy rain in a short period of time along with some small hail & gusty winds. Lightning is also a hazard. So remember when thunder roars, head indoors! Storms are still possible Wednesday PM but will be less widespread. The trend for Thursday and Friday will be more heat and less rain as high pressure tries to build in. This will be short-lived though as storm chances creep back up again Sunday through next Tuesday.
