Houston rescue teams are coming together to evacuate animals stuck in hurricane-ravaged Louisiana. Others are taking food and supplies to pets and livestock still in the state.

Cities across Louisiana are still trying to pick up the pieces after Hurricane IDA careened through a little over a week ago.

Some evacuees from Louisiana are still here in Houston after escaping from the devastating Hurricane Ida. And while the mayor of New Orleans has encouraged residents to come back home, some in Houston say they are unsure of when they'll return.

Droves of Houstonians are starting this labor day weekend working to help our neighbors to the east, who were hit hard by the hurricane. FOX 26’s Damali Keith joins us with more on how Houstonians are helping.

"It’s bad here," said Steward Goff from Galveston Fire Department. "They had a significant rain and flood event.  I’m just glad I can be here to help."

According to the DA’s office, the two men were targeting people for high-end jewelry. Including staking out valet stands to find their victims.

For evacuees from Louisiana, a resolution from the aftermath of Hurricane Ida seems out of reach, but they're holding on to the small bits of relief they can find.

People across the Houston area are stepping up to help those devastated by Hurricane Ida.

Ida knocked out power to all of New Orleans, blew roofs off buildings and reversed the flow of the Mississippi River as it rushed from the Louisiana coast into one of the nation’s most important industrial corridors.

CenterPoint Energy and Texas-New Mexico Power crews from the Houston area went to Louisiana to help restore power after Hurricane Ida left more than 1 million people in the dark.
