Derion Vence pleaded guilty to tampering with a corpse and injury to a child in the case of 4-year-old Maleah Davis, the Houston girl who was found dead in Arkansas weeks after an Amber Alert was issued in her disappearance in May 2019.

Tuesday marked the second anniversary in the disappearance of 4-year-old Maleah Davis in southwest Houston. She was later found dead in Arkansas, and many are still waiting for justice in her case.

It’s now been more than a year since Derion Vence was arrested in connection with the death of his former fiancé’s daughter Maleah Davis, and his case has still not gone past arraignment. On the anniversary of his arrest, he submitted a handwritten motion to reduce bail.

Monday, May 4 marks one year since the man who was later charged in Maleah Davis' death told police she had been abducted. A year later, there is still no closure.

Craig Davis encouraged attendees to wear pink T-shirts, Maleah’s favorite color, and to brings lots of bubbles. 

Attorneys for Bowen described her as a loving caring grandmother who has a stable home and is financially capable of caring for Maleah's 6-year-old brother.

Maleah’s mom, Brittany Bowens, who has undergone extensive psychological assessments at the request of CPS, is in counseling and she’s asking for her mother to get custody of her 6-year-old son. A CPS caseworker testified Bowens “is not emotionally ready to take the kids.”

On Monday, Maleah Davis' parents were in a Harris County civil court in front of Judge Gloria Lopez in a fight for custody of her older brother.

Derion Vence, the only person charged in her death, was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. Instead, the appearance was reset again, this time for April 1.

Derion Vence, the only person charged in Maleah Davis' death, did not appear in court again. His court date has been rescheduled for January of next year.
