Houston Community College expansion deal temporarily halted

A one-man crusade has managed to temporarily kill a $20 million expansion deal for the Houston Community College System. This development follows controversial politician and HCC Board Trustee Dave Wilson taking to the airwaves to stop what he calls an expansion for the rich people of Katy.

Wilson, who represents the North Forest community, says expanding in Katy should not happen. The HCC Board was scheduled to vote on an item on Thursday that would purchase $20 million in land near Interstate 10 and the Grand Parkway in Katy for that expansion.

Wilson says Katy residents do not pay taxes to the HCC System so why build out there.

A spokesman for the school said the proposal was pulled because the chancellor at HCC wants to get the board more information on the deal.
