Houston weather: Mostly sunny, windy, cooler Thursday with afternoon highs in mid 60s
So far, we are on pace for the warmest January on record, but we do have much cooler air on the way over the next couple of nights along with sunny, cool and dry days. A cold front this morning has ushered in a pattern change that will last through this weekend with overnight temperatures falling into the upper 30s in many spots. Temperatures for the Houston Marathon look nice, but might be a little warm for runners by the end of the race. Watch for the return of showers by the MLK Day holiday.

Thursday morning Houston-area weather forecast
New record high temperature was reached Wednesday at Houston Hobby Airport at 82 beating the previous record high of 80. Bush Intercontinental Airport reached 80 degrees which was just shy of the record high of 81 from 1995. Galveston did tie the record high for today of 75 degrees. Cold front will swing through overnight which will end our record heat and bring a chance for some scattered showers. I can't rule out a brief rumble of thunder, but no severe weather is expected. Front will usher in more seasonable air for Thursday and Friday with highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s and 40s. Temperatures jump back close to 80 for M.L.K. Jr. Day on Monday with spotty showers expected.

Marathoners can expect great starting conditions, followed by a warm and breezy finish. Showers look to return on Monday for Martin Luther King Day, with another shot at record breaking warmth on Tuesday.
