The winter storm that has been impacting Texas has now moved out of the state. It brought several inches of snow to parts of North Texas and a few inches of rain for parts of Southeast Texas. There's a huge football playoff game tonight at AT&T stadium in Arlington, the Cotton Bowl with Texas and Ohio state. Temperatures will be near freezing, but the weather should be dry. For the Houston area, expect cold and dry conditions tonight with a widespread freeze likely by Saturday morning. After starting off in the low 30s for Houston Saturday morning, temperatures should climb to the middle 50s by Saturday afternoon with plenty of sunshine. Weather will be cool but quiet for Texans tailgating for the big NFL wild card playoff game against the Chargers Saturday afternoon. Look for more clouds Sunday with isolated rain chances and slightly warmer temperatures near 60. We've had some crazy weather in recent weeks. Texas Weather: Major storm to impact Texas Thursday
Major Texas winter storm is gearing up to push into western parts of the state. A Winter Storm Warning is now in place for the Dallas, Arlington and Fort Worth areas from Thursday morning through Noon Friday. This is where several inches of snow could fall along with a glaze of ice, creating dangerous travel for those driving in for the Cotton Bowl. Farther south in the Houston area, waves of heavy rain will be likely throughout Thursday, especially Thursday night. Sleet may briefly mix with rain, but no icy or snowy roads are expected for the Houston area. Models are showing widespread 1 to 3 inch rain totals between Thursday and Friday morning with isolated higher amounts possible, especially near the coast. There's a low risk for street flooding stretching from Houston to Galveston so make sure to turn around if you encounter any flooded roads. Rain should end by midday Friday, but chilly temperatures will stick around. Look for high temperatures Friday in the low 40s, with even colder weather Friday night as temperatures fall back to around freezing. At least the weather this weekend looks fairly quiet with temperatures warming to near 60 Sunday with only a 20% chance for rain.
