A disorganized area of storms soaked the Yucatan Friday and it has a small chance of developing into a depression in the far southern Gulf this weekend. The only effect on our area will be the chance for some of the extra moisture to be pulled into our area slightly increasing our rainfall.

Tropical Storm Andrea is over. It was in the middle of the Atlantic for 12 hours, but entered the record books as the farthest north and east a tropical system has formed in the Atlantic during June since 1851. Saharan dust is back and keep the Atlantic quiet for now.

An area of low pressure in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean has formed into Tropical Storm Andrea. Andrea is quickly tracking NE and this system will have no effects on the US. Andrea will be a short-lived tropical storm due to moving into cooler waters and stronger wind shear. Andrea is expected to weaken overnight and lose tropical characteristics by Wednesday. An above average hurricane season is still expected and hurricane season runs through November 30th.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disorganized showers and storms in the Atlantic, located southeast of Bermuda. Slow development is possible but the likelihood is very low at this time. These thunderstorms will move away from the United States.

The tropics are quiet in the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf. No tropical activity is expected within the next 7 days. There are no threats for Texas in the near future. However, in the East Pacific, an area offshore of the west coast of Central America is being monitored for tropical development.

Erick made landfall in Oaxaca, Mexico as a major hurricane this morning with maximum sustained winds near 125 mph. Flash flooding will be a major threat in that area all day and through Friday. There are no threats for Texas in the near future from the tropics.

Tropical Storm Erick has formed south of Mexico in the Pacific Ocean. This is the 5th storm in the Eastern Pacific this season and will likely be the first to make landfall. The Acapulco region will get some heavy downpours and gusty winds from the system later this week. So far, it still looks quiet for the Gulf and Caribbean.

It has been a quiet start to the Atlantic hurricane season as of the middle of June. This will likely be the trend through the next week with Saharan dust still dominating and hostile winds making it difficult for tropical waves to get organized. The Eastern Pacific has already had 4 named storms with the fifth likely coming soon. Invest 94-E near Central America has a very high chance to become a tropical depression or Tropical Storm Erick over the next few days.

No tropical development expected in the Atlantic Basin over the next week. So now is the time to make sure you are prepared for the season. Tropical Storm Dalila is hanging on for now but won't last much longer as it continues to move out into the Pacific away from Mexico.

Still no tropical activity in the Gulf and Caribbean - in the Eastern Pacific, a new storm named Dalila, has formed near the Acapulco area. Dalila should move out into the open waters of the Pacific but tropical storm winds could impact the western Mexican coast for now.

Things continue to remain quiet across the Atlantic basin for the month of June. However, in the Eastern Pacific, multiple systems are being monitored, including Tropical Storm Barbara and Topical Storm Cosme. Barbara will remain offshore but will still bring the threat for high surf and rip currents along the West-Central Mexican coast. Both systems are rapidly weakening & will fall apart the next few days as they move north into cooler waters.

For the ninth day of the 2025 hurricane season, the Atlantic basin remains very quiet. Saharan dust is still covering a big part of the Atlantic limiting tropical activity and the Gulf & Caribbean remain quiet. We are still expecting an above average hurricane season so don't let your guard down. Eastern Pacific remains busy with Tropical Storm Cosme & as of today Hurricane Barbara that formed. Neither system is expected to make landfall across Mexico. But Barbara could dump 2 to 4 inches of rain and bring big waves to parts of SW Mexico.

So far, so good in the Gulf and Caribbean over the next week or so. The eastern Pacific Ocean (south and west coast of Mexico) looks very active over the next week or two. Tropical Storm Barbara & Tropical Storm Cosme formed Sunday along with 1 additional area being monitored for possible tropical development.

The National Hurricane Center is no longer focused on a low pressure system in the NE Gulf. Looks like this will become a non tropical over land at the end of this week. The Southeast US will see rainy and windy conditions but not something the National Hurricane Center will track. Elsewhere, the rest of the Atlantic Basin should be quiet over the next 7 days.
