Suspected drunk driver arrested after deadly wrong-way crash
Authorities say a 19-year-old suspected drunk driver is facing charges after a wrong-way crash that left another driver dead.
According to police, the 19-year-old driver was traveling the wrong way on Main when he crashed head-on with another vehicle that was traveling the right way. The victim was trapped in the burning car. Firefighters responded to the scene but were unable to rescue the driver, who was later declared deceased.
Authorities say the 19-year-old driver tried to steal the truck of a bystander who had stopped to help, but that person brought the teen back the scene when he tried to run. The teen driver was taken into custody by Houston police.
Investigators say the field sobriety test indicated intoxication.
The district attorney’s office says the teen is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid - death. They are trying to determine where the teen was served the alcohol.
