Houston weather: Wind chills could drop to 10 degrees

The Houston area’s amazing snow day has arrived! Overall, accumulations look like they got up to between 2 and 3 inches for the majority of the area with some spots that were a little bit higher.

Incredibly, Galveston has been experiencing pelting sleet along with some snow with winds gusting above 50 mph! The mixture of wind and snow has also prompted the first ever blizzard warning in history for Beaumont and Port Arthur for Lake Charles and for Lafayette, Louisiana until noon today.

Extreme Cold Watch:

Tonight we’re under what’s called an extreme cold watch, which means that wind chill values could drop as low as 10°. After a very, very cold night tonight, we’ll see sunshine on Wednesday with high temperatures rising into the low 40s, which should allow any remaining ice to melt.

However, please be very careful and try and stay off the roads on Wednesday morning because, with low temperatures in the low 20s, ice is very likely to form across the area.
