Coastal flood advisory for Galveston Island, Bolivar Peninsula until 8 a.m. Dec. 27

A coastal flood advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 8 a.m. Thursday for Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula.

The National Weather Service advises that travel on State Highway 87 at State Highway 124 on the Bolivar Peninsula may be hazardous with overwash and that water may approach Seawall Boulevard in Galveston at high tide. Rip currents will be strong along area beaches.

The greatest risk for flooding will be the hours before and after high tide which is projected at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday.
