Tropical Weather Update - Tracking Storm Erin, Yucatan wave

Tropics remain active with tropical storm Erin now in the Central Atlantic. It is expected to become a category one hurricane by Friday morning and a major category 3 hurricane by Sunday morning, just north of Puerto Rico. Right now, It appears that it will curve north early next week and miss the East Coast of the US. But it could pose a risk for Bermuda next week. We are also monitoring a tropical wave crossing over the Yucatan peninsula that will push into the Southwestern Gulf by Thursday. There's a low 10 to 20% chance that it could turn into a weak tropical system over the next few days. At this point, it is expected to remain weak and have minimal impacts on the Houston area. However, it could help to enhance our rain chances Friday and give us an increased risk for rip currents.

Tropical Weather Forecast - Continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Erin

The first hurricane of the season is likely to form in the Atlantic Ocean Over the next few days or so. Tropical Storm Erin has not become any stronger today, but it will soon. The most likely path will take the storm just north of the Caribbean, then turning before hitting the East Coast. In fact, Erin is forecast to become a major category 3 hurricane by this weekend just north of Puerto Rico. However, everyone from Florida to New England should stay alert for changes. The system is very unlikely to affect the Gulf.

Houston weather: Scattered storms possible Tuesday

As kids head off to school this week, they'll be met with lots of humidity along with some hit and miss rain. A few storms could be on the hefty side, especially coming home from school. A few morning showers are also possible each morning. Away from rain, expect the temperature to feel like up to 105 degrees with actual highs in the mid 90s. That's hot but considered typical heat for H-Town in August.

Tropical Weather Forecast - Watching Erin in Atlantic

The first hurricane of the season is likely to form in the Atlantic Ocean this week. This system developed into Tropical Storm Erin today but remains very far from Texas in the eastern Atlantic. Through the week, the tropical storm will move westward, likely being upgraded to Hurricane Erin by Thursday. It is even forecast to become a major category 3 hurricane by this weekend just north of the Lesser Antilles. At this point, this does not look like a Gulf Coast threat, but it could come close to the East Coast of the US. Otherwise, we expect several tropical waves to move across the Atlantic over the next two weeks.
