FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

The heat alerts continue for the Houston area with Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories. There is also an Air Quality Alert and Fire Weather Watch for parts of the FOX26 area. There are still lots of questions for the forecast next week but things certainly favor a slightly cooler and rainy pattern for most of the week. But first, be ready for another dangerously hot weekend.

ERCOT issues Voluntary Conservation Notice for Thursday

A Voluntary Conservation Notice has been declared for the hours of 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 17, urging Texans to make voluntary adjustments in their electricity usage, provided it can be done safely. It is important to note that ERCOT is not operating under emergency conditions at this time.

Texas ranked third for natural disasters by state

The Lone Star State's susceptibility to a wide array of natural catastrophes, including hurricanes along its Gulf Coast, tornadoes in its central plains, and wildfires in its arid western regions, contributed to its high ranking.

The Atlantic is starting to wake up, with several areas being monitored for development including one in the Gulf. The Pacific is also fairly active, with 3 named systems and one additional area that could develop.

FOX 26 Wednesday evening weather forecast

A Fire Weather Watch is in effect through this evening with slightly drier, less humid air in place. Tomorrow look for the return of more widespread heat alerts, with several sunny and hot days on the horizon. The tropics are starting to wake up, and there is at least the potential for some tropical moisture to bring short-term rain and heat relief early next week. Just something to watch for now, but stay connected and expect changes to the forecast as we draw closer.

Rare fire weather watch for Houston area

A rare fire weather watch has been issued across the area. Dry hot air combined with weeks of no rain has created the potential for dangerous fires outside. FOX 26's Matthew Seedorff is working with the Spring Fire Department to learn more.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

A rare Fire Weather Watch is in effect today from noon through 9 p.m. This is due to the combination of the ongoing drought and the temporary arrival of dry air. All local counties are under an outdoor burn ban. Otherwise, look for another very hot pattern today through the weekend with highs above 100. Next week, a tropical wave could bring some rain by the Monday through Wednesday time frame.

Houston weather: Fire danger, drought and rain chances

A summer cold front will move through today and allow humidity to drop considerably by this afternoon. The combination of dry air and dry vegetation means that there is a risk of a brushfire starting.
