Tropical Weather Forecast - October 12, 2023

Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean are quiet for now with two systems we are monitoring in the Atlantic. One is Tropical Storm Sean which is in the eastern Atlantic. It is expected to remain fairly disorganized as it moves northwest. Tropical Storm Sean should weaken back to a tropical depression over the next few days and lose tropical characteristics by Sunday. A tropical wave in the far east Atlantic now has a medium chance to become our next tropical system. The next name on the list to be used for the Atlantic Basin is Tammy.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Widespread showers from this morning have moved off to the east with only an isolated shower expected through early tonight. Area of low pressure now in the northern Gulf of Mexico is not going to become a tropical system and is moving away from us. That will mean only a low 20% chance for rain Thursday. Look for a warming trend the next few days with near record heat Friday afternoon. That summer-like heat won't last for long though with our next cold front set to dive in Friday evening. That will mean temperatures back down to 70s during the afternoon this weekend and overnight lows in the 50s!

Tropical Weather Forecast - October 11, 2023

The two tropical cyclones we had in the eastern Pacific, Max and Lidia both have dissipated. But an area of low pressure now in the northern Gulf of Mexico is spreading some heavier showers across central and eastern parts of the Gulf coast. Good news is that tropical cyclone development is no longer expected and most of the rain has shifted east of the Houston area. We do have a new tropical storm in the far east Atlantic named Sean. It is forecast to remain disorganized and weaken to a remnant low early next week. Another tropical wave near the west coast of Africa only has a low chance to become our next tropical depression or storm.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Light rain all across southeast Texas this morning with mild temperatures. The showers should start to clear this afternoon with isolated chances hanging around through Thursday. Major warm up right before the next cold front moves through Houston setting up mostly clear skies and comfortable temperatures for the weekend.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Moisture from a disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico and powerful Hurricane Lidia in the eastern Pacific will head our way. Disturbance in the SW Gulf of Mexico now has only a 10% extremely low chance to develop into a tropical system. Most areas will pick up less than a half inch of rain with the heaviest showers near the coast. Best chance for rain will be tonight through Wednesday morning with rain fading by Wednesday afternoon and evening. Severe storms are not expected. Temperatures will be pleasant Wednesday in the 70s with temperatures back near 90 Friday. That warming trend will be ahead of our next cold front that will have it feeling like fall again in Houston this weekend!

Tropical Weather Forecast - October 10, 2023

Disturbance in the SW Gulf of Mexico now has only a 10% extremely low chance to develop into a tropical system. Hurricane hunters investigated the system and found it disorganized with only 20-25 mph winds. However moisture from that system and powerful Hurricane Lidia in the eastern Pacific will head our way. That means an increased chance for showers this evening, tonight and Wednesday for SE Texas. There's a high chance for a tropical wave to be our next tropical depression or storm in the eastern Atlantic.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Temperatures are milder today with skies turning cloudy. Look for a few showers this afternoon with more rain around southeast Texas Tuesday night. Rain chances still high for Wednesday but no severe weather just some showers and isolated downpours. The next cold front arrives to Houston on Friday clearing things out for a pleasant weekend.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Look for clouds increasing Tuesday with rain becoming more likely late Tuesday through Wednesday PM. This is due to the fact that we will get tropical moisture from 3 different systems heading our way. There's tropical storms Max & Lidia in the eastern Pacific and a disturbance in the SW Gulf of Mexico. The good news is that there's only a low 20% chance for a tropical depression or tropical storm to form in the next few days. Most of this moisture stays to our south but Tuesday night through Wednesday morning will be our best chance for some tropical downpours. Models are indicating around .5" to 1.5" from Houston to Galveston. but more than 4" is possible for south Texas. Low rain chances hang around through Friday when a cold front will move through. Look for more heat & humidity this week with another nice drop in temperatures by the weekend.

Tropical Weather Forecast - October 9, 2023

Things could get interesting in the Gulf of Mexico as a small area of low pressure in the Bay of Campeche (SW Gulf) is being monitored for tropical cyclone development. The good news is that there's only a low 20% chance for a tropical depression or tropical storm to form in the next few days. But moisture from that system combined with moisture from tropical systems in the eastern Pacific will combine to spread more moisture our way. That means an increasing chance of some heavy downpours, especially late Tuesday and Wednesday. Right now it does not appear that any of these systems will have a major impact to our weather. But look for 1-2" of rain possible between Tuesday PM and Wednesday PM for SE Texas. We are also tracking a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic with now a high chance for tropical cyclone development as it moves WNW over the next few days.
