Houston weather: Heavy storms possible Wednesday

Conditions are looking more favorable for storms tomorrow and there is ample moisture to support some heavy ones. April, May and June are typically our rainiest months in the Houston area and, like we saw on Monday, ordinary storms can get nasty with little warning. There is patchy fog for Tuesday morning, then muggy with isolated afternoon storms possible with highs in the mid 80s. The combination of high humidity, a stalled front and a few areas of low pressure at the jet stream level could bring a few rounds of showers and storms.

For now, Wednesday brings the highest chance for storms. A look ahead at the weekend and next week shows some very warm temps with highs in the upper 80s.

That same frontal boundary which helped to bring heavy downpours on Sunday and Monday slowly moves back across southeast Texas on Tuesday keeping rain in the forecast. With some spots around Houston already seeing saturated grounds and full bayous, stay alert for short-term flooding again with these storms.

The focus of Monday's heavy rain will move from the Sugar Land - Houston - Humble area to the coastal counties by late morning and midday. Models are showing improving conditions in the afternoon with highs in the low to mid 80s.
