Students at La Marque Elementary School brought Black History figures to life in their annual Living Museum. With the touch of a button, classmates were able to meet and learn from such historic figures as Jackie Robinson, Rosa Parks and President Barack Obama. Teachers chose this interactive project to inspire students to appreciate the past and those who paved the way for them to make history as well.

Jack Yates paved the way for future black families in Houston

It’s fitting for a school to carry his name because Yates not only learned to read, write, and do arithmetic at a time when it was illegal for blacks to do so, he also taught other black people.
