Around 11:30 yesterday morning, Sgt. Greg Bogert responded to a call of a male walking in and out of traffic on a New Jersey highway. Once there, the 18-year veteran of the force found a male visibly upset and crying.

He was allegedly screaming, "My family is dead! I just want to die!"

As the man sobbed uncontrollably, Sgt. Bogert attempted to calm him.

The male then ran to the concrete barrier and attempted to jump off the bridge. Sgt Bogert was able to grab the man and stop him from jumping. The male was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation.

The man's identity has not been revealed but he's believed to be from Pennsylvania, the police lieutenant said.
