Teenagers spark social media outrage over "Thug Day" attire
HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Students at Memorial High School in Houston were allowed to wear sports jerseys for Spirit Week, but some took it too far with oversized jerseys. And to add insult to injury, they had their hair braided into cornrows.
Those handful of students, mostly white, dubbed it as "Thug Day", sparking outrage on social media.
Memorial High School released this statement:
"While the majority of rising juniors followed the approved dress theme on Tuesday, any instance of an inappropriate or offensive dress violation will not be tolerated. Students found to be in volation of the student code of conduct and dress code will be given a consequence. MHS is focused today on preparing all students for finals and ending the school year well."
