When Cardboard the baby squirrel was brought into Merrill Animal Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, he was on the verge of death.

But after lots of love, care, antibiotics and attention from Polly Weldon, a volunteer at the clinic, the tiny critter is on the way to making a full recovery.

To celebrate, Weldon decided to hold an adorable newborn photoshoot for Cardboard, who owned the camera in every shot. Weldon shared the shoot on February 4, and one of the images — featuring the baby squirrel donning a teeny blue bow — had racked up over a million views at the time of writing.

Weldon said that Cardboard was given his name by the clinic’s veterinarian.

“The name Cardboard was chosen by the veterinarian who saved his life. Our receptionist mentioned ‘nothing good comes in a cardboard box’ (anyone who works in an animal clinic can understand) and the name just made sense,” she said via email.
