Woman charged in death of 1-year-old in Houston, child was malnourished and dehydrated
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - After nearly a year, a woman has been charged in connection to the death of a one-year-old in Houston back in April 2024.
Houston police state 32-year-old Iliana Isela Madrid was charged with injury to a child.

The backstory:
Houston Fire Department paramedics were called to 7120 Village Way around 4 p.m. on April 9, 2024, about an infant.
Madrid, the guardian of the child at the time, called 911 after she noticed the 1-year-old was unresponsive and tried to provide medical assistance.

Paramedics took the infant to hospital where they were later pronounced dead.
HPD investigated the death and ended up charging Madrid for her role in the death.
She was arrested on Friday by members of the HPD Southeast Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team without incident.

According to court documents, a doctor with the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office determined the child's cause of death was malnutrition and dehydration due to neglect.
When he was taken to the hospital, officials said he had multiple cuts and bruises on his head, shoulder, and back. Authorities report the bones in his chest were visible while he was lying down.

The infant weighed 15.1 pounds and his weight was less than the 5th percentile for his age, records say.
According to the doctor, there were various injuries to the one-year-old's body such as blunt force to his head, neck, torso, and extremeities. He also had a classic metaphysical lesion which was consistent with twisting, pulling, and flailing of his left ankle just before his death.
