TEXAS (FOX 26) - SEGUIN, Texas (AP) — Investigators say more than 20 suspected gang members have been arrested in South Texas in a sweep linked to drugs, illegal cash and violence. Seguin police announced Friday's arrests on state and federal warrants for manufacture and delivery of controlled substances and organized crime counts. Officials believe the suspects are part of the prison-based Mexican Mafia. The suspects were captured mainly in Guadalupe County. Seguin police Deputy Chief Bruce Ure says officers seized cash, weapons and drugs. A police statement says the 18-month investigation involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
JASPER, Texas (AP) — An East Texas jail inmate who fled while being treated at a hospital has been caught hiding in a dishwasher. Jasper County jail records show that 20-year-old Wesley Evans of Silsbee was being held Friday on multiple charges following his day on the run. Jasper is 125 miles northeast of Houston. Sheriff Mitchel Newman says Evans was arrested on March 8 on charges of aggravated robbery, auto theft and arson. He fled Tuesday after being taken to a local hospital for a hand injury. Investigators say Evans was found Wednesday in the dishwasher of an apartment at his girlfriend's apartment complex. Jail records show Evans also faces charges of escape and assault causing bodily injury. No attorney was listed for Evans. His bond is set at $172,500.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Five Fort Bliss soldiers have been arrested on burglary charges after they were spotted pulling door handles of parked cars in an El Paso neighborhood after midnight. The five two 18-year-old and two 19-year-old privates and a 21-year-old specialist were jailed and held on $10,000 bond each.
