Super Bowl MVP, Channelview HS graduate Jalen Hurts is making Houston proud

Houston's own Jalen Hurts is making us proud on the world stage.

Hurts was named Most Valuable Player in the big game on Sunday night, but he's been valuable in the Houston area long before winning the Super Bowl.

Jalen Hurts making Houston proud

The backstory:

Before becoming quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles and MVP in the Super Bowl, Hurts walked the halls as a high school kid and graduated from Channelview High School. Today, the football star is on everyone's lips, in plenty of hearts, and plastered all over congratulatory signs in the Channelview area.

FOX 26 also caught up with Hurts' mom, Pamela Hurts, who says she prayed about her son's big Super Bowl win and God answered her prayer.

"I'm so happy, but so exhausted. I went to bed at 5 a.m. I told you it was going to happen. I told you I was going to Disney World with them, and also their parade. I believe in speaking things into existence," says the proud mom.

What they're saying:

"Congrats Jalen. Thanks for making us proud," screams one man, a proud supporter in Channelview.

"Everybody's super excited. It's just impressive how humble he is. He was humble when he was in school, very respectable young man, always did well, and he's still proving to be that person today. He was in the National Honor Society, very intelligent, very respectful. It's kind of awesome thinking of him walking the halls. Even driving up to work today, and you see 'Congratulations Jalen Hurts' on the sign. It's just an awesome feeling," explains Channelview High School educator Krista Simpson.

"I'm so happy for him, because he really deserves this," Hurts' mom said.

In Channelview, Hurts' success is also setting an example for other students, letting kiddos coming up behind him know hard work pays off.
