Battling the opioid epidemic in Harris County

Harris County filed a lawsuit today against 21 pharmaceutical companies, four local doctors, and one pharmacist, linking them to Houston’s growing opioid epidemic.

According to the lawsuit, the defendants worked to create a market encouraging over prescription of opioids and long term use of the addictive drugs, saying their motive was the almighty dollar, with deadly consequences.

Ninety people die each day in the U.S. from opioid addiction. The county attorney says they're exploring going after more doctors and pharmacists.
