78-year-old bicyclist dies after suffering head injuries, police launching investigation

Houston Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on 7800 Scanlock Street, where a 78-year-old man was found with a head injury. 

Police say around 9:15p.m. an elderly man was riding his bicycle and found by police laying on the ground on Monday.

Officials believe he was either struck by an unknown driver or fell off his bike causing the head injury.  

Authorities say the Houston Fire Department paramedics took the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There was no visible damage to the bicycle and no known witnesses at the scene, authorities say.

His family members will be notified before his identity is released by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
