A very brave 6-year-old boy featured on FOX 5 has passed away after a battle with Leukemia. Mason Mazzuca passed away Friday after an over two-year battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Mason loved Star Wars, cooking, legos, playing with his family and friends, dancing, and rooting for his favorite team, the Redskins. He is remembered for his energy and sense of humor. "He makes us laugh every day," said his dad Bob Mazzuca when he spoke to FOX 5 in 2016.

His family posted on Friday about their son's passing: "Our sweet little guy has been set free. He fought like hell but his body was just too sick. He was the strongest fighter, bravest little boy and best friend to all of us. We will spend our time finding the best ways to honor him. We know he will be watching us from above dancing to Uptown Funk free of his lines!"

Mason and his family were featured on a special FOX 5 DC Cares segment in 2016, that celebrated those fighting blood cancer and have benefited from the work done by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Mason's mom, Keli, was in attendance on Saturday night at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Ball in Washington, where Mason was honored.

Mason was also honored at the University of Maryland Men’s Lacrosse game Saturday, where there was a moment of silence for Mason and then played his favorite song "Uptown Funk" by Bruno Mars.

The Mazzuca family is now raising money to give back to the fourth floor at Children’s Hospital, where Mason was a patient. They have already exceeded their goal of $20,000 and are working to do all they can to help the kids who are fighting childhood illnesses like Mason's.
