Houston weather: Sunny, humid Friday in the 90s

Happy Friday! Expect highs to be in the mid to upper 90s with mostly sunny, humid conditions for the Houston-area. There might be a few showers or storms, but their coverage will be limited.

Houston weather: Summer heat on the way for Friday

An area of high pressure that has covered much of Texas this week will weaken and move westward this weekend allowing lower pressure to move in. A plume of moisture from the Gulf will bring higher chances for scattered showers and storms on Saturday, then a good chance for rain on Sunday and Monday. A few could be heavy, so stay weather aware especially during the afternoons on Sunday and Monday.

Tropical Weather Update: Monitoring several areas for possible development in the Atlantic

It looks like tropical activity in the Atlantic will start to pick up over the next week or two, but for now, there aren?t any threats to Texas or even to the United States. Tropical storm Dexter has moved into the cold waters of the north Atlantic Ocean and considered ?extra-tropical?. It is possible that the remnant area of low pressure could hold together long enough to affect places like Ireland and Scotland next week. There are two tropical waves to watch and the farther out Atlantic Ocean. One tropical wave is in the central Atlantic and has a pretty good chance of becoming at least a tropical storm over the next five days or so, but it looks like that one will curve before heading toward the US east coast and won?t be a big concern for Texas. Another tropical wave will roll off the West Coast of Africa over the next day or so, and that one will be watched very closely because models are showing it strengthening and possibly approaching the Caribbean Sea coming up by next week.

Houston weather: Your August 7 evening forecast

Mostly sunny and hot conditions should prevail for most of the Houston area on Friday with highs in the mid to upper 90s inland and low 90s near the coast. A few showers or storms are certainly possible, but their coverage will be limited.

Houston weather: Summer heat in the 90s for Thursday

There aren't any major changes from yesterday's forecast, as we're back to mostly clear skies. The summer heat continues with highs reaching the 90s, but an isolated storm could help cool down those temperatures depending on where you live.

Houston weather: Showers, storms possible for Thursday

Gulf breezes, partly cloudy skies and spotty storms will hold our temperatures close to average. Expect highs in the mid 90s, some upper 90s inland and low 90s near the beaches. Each day will bring a few morning showers near the coast and scattered inland storms each afternoon. There aren't many major changes each of the next several days, so weather in your area will be mostly subject to the randomness of where storms set up each day.

Tropical Weather Forecast - Watching Dexter as well as new areas of development

Tropical Storm Dexter is still moving deeper into the central Atlantic Ocean. It's still moving away from land and will become extratropical over the next day or two. Elsewhere, a low could develop east of Florida and south of the Carolinas that could bring them late-week rain. Models are showing it getting organized, then moving away from the US. We'll also monitor two more tropical waves: one has about a 60% chance of becoming a depression of storm, but is very far away from Texas. A stronger wave could move into the eastern Atlantic by late this week and the GFS model is showing it eventually becoming a hurricane late next week, but all that is uncertain at this point. It's not impossible that a storm could approach the Caribbean and/or the Gulf by mid to late August, so we'll keep you updated.
