Sizzling sunshine is in sight for the second half of the weekend. If you have any outdoor plans for Father's Day or Juneteenth, make sure you are taking heat safety precautions, as high temperatures will soar to near 100. More heat is on deck next week, with highs reaching the upper 90s to 100. Be safe & stay cool everyone!

Meteorologist Mike Iscovitz has officially been named the Chief Meteorologist of Your Gulf Coast Weather Authority, congrats Mike! The tropics are quiet at the moment but there is plenty of heat to monitor, with several days likely hitting triple digits. Aside from the hot sunshine, we'll be dry with rain chances remaining at about 10% or less on the day to day. Try to take advantage of the cooler parts of the day (early, late) to get outside, celebrate Dad/Juneteenth and exercise for yourself/pets. Unfortunately, drought and heat relief is not on the horizon in the near future.

Two named storms continue to churn in the Pacific Basin.. Meanwhile, the Atlantic remains quiet. Our latest batch of Saharan Dust is dissipating, but another round is set to move in by the middle of next week.

Slight chance for rain in some areas, otherwise it's hot, hot, hot
Our 30% chance for showers and isolated storms today is as high as we've had this month and the highest we're going to see for a while. Look for widely scattered showers and a few storms beginning late this morning and peaking around mid-afternoon. Aside from the lucky areas that receive rain, expect another hot day. For the Father's Day and Juneteenth weekend, there may be a rogue storm, but highs could hit 100 and that pattern isn't going away ... upper 90s are expected through next week.

Saharan dust is here and it's making things very hazy! Winds are expected to shift this weekend, allowing for less dust by Saturday and Sunday. While the Atlantic Basin remains fairly quiet, things are heating up in the Pacific.

Hazy skies from Saharan Dust will linger for one more day, then we'll see a wind shift over the weekend that should lessen that. Our best shot at rain is tomorrow, and then Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Over the weekend for any outdoor Father's Day plans or Juneteenth celebrations, it will be more about beating the heat than dodging raindrops. We could see Heat Advisories get issued as actual temperatures near 100 and Heat Indices approach the 105-108 range. There is some activity in the tropics, but everything is staying away from us for now. Stay safe and cool out there!
