A mostly pleasant holiday weekend awaits you southeast Texas! Skies will be sunny and clear by this afternoon, and tomorrow will be a touch more humid. Sunday morning, though air quality will likely be poor from firework smoke pooling at the surface. Sensitive groups may want to limit time outside, also something to consider for Texans tailgaters. A brief passing shower is possible Sunday, but more widespread rain arrives Monday along with the likelihood of a few strong to severe storms. Then, from Wednesday and beyond we'll be pretty much right on the money for where we should be this time of year. Enjoy and Happy New Year!

Look for clear to mostly clear skies on Saturday and Sunday. Mornings start off in the 50s with afternoon highs in the 70s. After a stormy Monday, 2023 will start with a pleasant stretch of days.

Rain chances basically drop to zero from here through Sunday night, with good sunshine for the holiday weekend and seasonably warm temps. Monday will be another day filled with rain and storms, with conditions rapidly improving by Tuesday morning. Drier and cooler air will drain in behind that system, leading to a mostly pleasant work week going into 2023!

Clouds will decrease throughout the day today, and I can't rule out some light showers altogether but in general, rain chances drop to zero through the remainder of the holiday weekend. Late Sunday clouds will increase again ahead of our next round of rain on Monday, which also has the potential to be heavy at times and with perhaps a few strong to severe storms in the mix. Behind that, sunshine rapidly returns as drier and cooler air drains in for the rest of your first work week of 2023!

Showers may linger through midday on Friday, and then pleasant and quiet weather awaits as we ring in the New Year. Another round of heavy rain, along with severe storm potential returns Monday followed by a cooldown leading into the middle of next week.

Some of those storms could be strong and some of the downpours could be heavy enough to create short-term street flooding. Stay aware of the rain around you especially in the late afternoon. The rain should wrap up on Friday and leave the holiday weekend with mostly clear skies.

Although this morning was very cold, we've had a rise in low temperatures each morning since the extreme freeze last Friday. This warming trend will continue for the rest of the week with a south breeze returning. Today looks sunny and dry with highs in the 50s. breezy south winds kick in Wednesday followed by a stormy Thursday and a great end to 2022.
