Morning of New Year's Eve weather forecast
A mostly pleasant holiday weekend awaits you southeast Texas! Skies will be sunny and clear by this afternoon, and tomorrow will be a touch more humid. Sunday morning, though air quality will likely be poor from firework smoke pooling at the surface. Sensitive groups may want to limit time outside, also something to consider for Texans tailgaters. A brief passing shower is possible Sunday, but more widespread rain arrives Monday along with the likelihood of a few strong to severe storms. Then, from Wednesday and beyond we'll be pretty much right on the money for where we should be this time of year. Enjoy and Happy New Year!

Friday morning weather forecast with Meteorologist Lena Maria Arango
Clouds will decrease throughout the day today, and I can't rule out some light showers altogether but in general, rain chances drop to zero through the remainder of the holiday weekend. Late Sunday clouds will increase again ahead of our next round of rain on Monday, which also has the potential to be heavy at times and with perhaps a few strong to severe storms in the mix. Behind that, sunshine rapidly returns as drier and cooler air drains in for the rest of your first work week of 2023!

Breezy and warmer today, scattered rain and storms tomorrow may be strong to severe, including the potential for locally heavy rainfall. Then, a fantastic holiday weekend with above-average temps continuing into the New Year! Monday, another round of heavy rain is on the way with severe weather potential and that may be your first day back at work/school after taking time off for the holidays. So, flag that as a day to keep tabs on and check back often for updates leading into NYE weekend.

Wednesday morning weather forecast with Meteorologist Lena Maria
It's our last chilly start, then we'll spend most of the rest of the week with daytime highs in the 70s! Look for a late-day increase in cloud cover, with showers and storms beginning overnight. Thursday will feature scattered storms, mainly in the afternoon and evening with a low risk for strong to severe storms and a moderate risk for heavy rain mainly north and east. Some of that action looks to spill into the start of the day Friday, then skies will gradually clear as we head into the holiday weekend with no weather concerns! Look for a fairly similar scenario to Thursday on Monday, and then things look generally dry after that.

Houston Freeze 2022: More than 1,500 bats rehabilitated after going into hypothermic shock
After freezing temps caused the bats to go into hypothermic shock and fall to the ground, the Houston Humane Society says they've been placed in "warming boxes and incubators" before giving them fluids and foods to aid in recovery.
