Houston weather: Sunny Sunday morning, storms in East Texas

Enjoy this last mostly dry day, things will take a soggy turn tomorrow through much of next week. Locally heavy rainfall that may lead to isolated, minor short term street flooding is possible on Sunday and Monday. Rain and storms look to gradually taper by the end of the week, leading to a dry and toasty weekend. Tropical Storm Arlene is set to dissipate to a remnant low by the end of the weekend, with nothing else being monitored for development in the Atlantic at this time.

Tropical Weather Forecast - June 2, 2023

On this second day of the 2023 hurricane season, Tropical Storm Arlene has become the first named storm of the season. Arlene has winds of 40 mph and is fairly weak as it drifts south in the Gulf of Mexico. Arlene is expected to stay west of Florida and head towards Cuba as it weakens to a post-tropical remnant low by Saturday. Arlene will pose no threat to Texas. The rest of the Atlantic Basin remains quiet at this time.

Friday, and Saturday will be sunny, hot and mostly dry with only isolated pop-up showers or storms. From Sunday through much of next week, brace yourself for rounds of rain varying in coverage and intensity - locally heavy rain will be a possibility at least on Sunday for now. Tropical Depression 2 was upgraded to Tropical Storm Arlene, with no local impacts and is set to slowly drift south in the eastern gulf before dissipating on Saturday.

Welcome to Friday, everyone. It's going to be another warm one with highs in the low 90s and we could match that tomorrow. Next week, we're looking for a pattern change with a series of jet stream disturbances brings rounds of showers and storms. The season's first tropical depression is very small and is moving slowly off the west coast of Florida. It should stay small and it won't have any effect our weather. At most, it could bring scattered storms to central and south Florida.

Today marks the first day of the 2023 hurricane season and Tropical Depression Two has formed in the NE Gulf with 35 mph winds. It is expected to drop south toward Cuba this weekend and not have any impacts on Texas. Locally. it will be about the heat the next few days with widespread 90s and only isolated rain. The threat for heavy rain and storms will become more widespread early next week as the weather pattern switches back to a more unsettled one. Air Quality Alert has been extended through Friday evening.

Tropical Weather Forecast - June 1, 2023

It looks like the first day of hurricane season is a busy one with Tropical Depression Two developing in the NE Gulf of Mexico. Maximum sustained winds are around 35 mph and it is moving slowly to the west at 2 mph. The tropical system is expected to drift south over the next few days towards Cuba. However, it will still be close to the Florida Peninsula bringing the threat for heavy rain and gusty winds. No impacts to Texas are anticipated.

Houston weather: Mostly sunny and hot Thursday with highs in the low 90s

On this start of Hurricane Season, our local weather couldn't possibly be more quiet. With warm temps and good sunshine, we have another air quality alert for ozone. Today through Saturday, an isolated shower or storm is possible but unlikely mainly in the afternoon with a brief increase in cloud cover. Storms will approach from the northwest overnight Saturday into Sunday, and much of next week features a rainy pattern with on and off storms. An area in the eastern gulf now has medium chances for development with Hurricane Hunters set to investigate it further today. The first name on the list is Arlene, this storm poses no threats to southeast Texas.
