Triple-digit temperatures meant another day of struggling to stay comfortable but several hundred CenterPoint customers were without electricity on Friday on purpose.

HEAT ADVISORY has been extended for the Houston area through 10 PM Saturday. Heat index values of 108-112 are likely Saturday afternoon. Areas north and east of Houston will be under an EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING from 1-10 PM Saturday. Temperatures of 105 or higher and heat index values of 113 or higher are possible. This is still DANGEROUS heat so continue to make heat safety a priority by staying hydrated, limiting time outside during the hottest part of the day, and making sure your pets are safe in the heat. The weather pattern will not change much over the next week with high temperatures between 100 and 103 and heat index values near 110. Triple-digit temperatures meant another day of struggling to stay comfortable but that was especially true for several hundred Centerpoint customers who were without electricity on Friday on purpose. FOX 26 Business Reporter Tom Zizka says it was an inconvenient time for maintenance.
Tropical Weather Forecast - August 4, 2023
All is quiet in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea & Atlantic for now with no tropical cyclone formation expected over the next few days. A few disturbances in the eastern Atlantic are battling Saharan dust and will likely not get stronger. Eastern Pacific is more active with a high chance for a tropical wave off the SW Mexican coast to develop into a tropical depression or storm over the next few days. We also still have Hurricane Dora in the east-central Pacific which has gotten a little weaker. The good news is that it should pass south of the Hawaiian Islands early next week.

As expected, the heat wave hasn't gone anywhere and will stick around through the weekend and most of next week. We've hit 101 or higher for 5 days in a row in Houston and we'll likely make today day 6. Rain chances could rise along with slightly less heat in about 7-10 days, but over the next week or so, heat alerts are likely every day.

HEAT ADVISORY has been extended again for Houston & all of SE Texas until 9 PM Friday. Heat index values of 108-112 are still likely through Friday evening. Actual temperatures will be around 100-104 for most areas through the weekend. Continue to practice heat safety by limiting time outside during the afternoon, drinking plenty of water, and checking your car for your kids or pets before you walk away. The weekend should be mainly dry but a 10-20% chance for rain returns Monday - Wednesday of next week.
Tropical Weather Forecast - August 3, 2023
There are a couple of tropical waves near the west coast of Africa but at this time tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next 48 hours. There's still quite a bit of Saharan Dust in the Atlantic that these possible systems will have to fight against. All is quiet in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico for now. In the eastern Pacific, Dora remains a major hurricane but is not a threat to land. Dora should pass well to the south of the Hawaiian Islands early next week.

We've had four consecutive days of highs in the triple-digits and today, that trend should continue. There is a slight chance for an isolated storm or two, but otherwise, it's just hot with a heat advisory through 9 p.m. The rest of the extended forecast? You guessed it, more extreme heat.

Excessive Heat Warning continues for areas north of Houston until 9 PM. Then the entire area will be under a Heat Advisory until 9 PM Thursday. That means heat index values could still be in the danger zone around 108 or higher. So continue to be careful in the heat and avoid too much time outside in the afternoon. If you must be outside, drink plenty of water and hydrate! Heat alerts will likely get extended through the rest of the week with very limited rain. This pattern looks to hold strong through at least the first few weeks of August. Tropics are fairly quiet with no named storms in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean. Hurricane Dora continues to strengthen in the eastern Pacific but is no threat to land at this time as it moves west.

Disturbance in the middle of the Atlantic now only has a small chance to develop into a tropical cyclone as it moves north. So it will likely not become a Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm. In the Eastern Pacific, Dora is a small but powerful hurricane moving west but is no threat to land.

Excessive Heat Warning has been extended for areas north of Houston including The Woodlands, Conroe, Huntsville & Livingston until 9 pm Wednesday. Temperatures could be around 105 or higher. Heat Advisory has been extended until 9 pm Wednesday for Houston and areas south. Heat index values will likely hover around 108-112 through Wednesday evening. Stay hydrated, limit time outside during the afternoon and check on sick and elderly neighbors if you can. This stretch of hot and mostly dry weather will stick around for the rest of the week. Look for highs near triple digits through the end of the week and into next week as well. There is also an ozone action day air quality alert in place for Harris, Galveston & Brazoria counties Wednesday. If you have asthma or other respiratory issues, you may want to limit your amount of time outside.
