Tropical Weather Forecast - August 8, 2023

Things are still quiet across the Atlantic Basin with no tropical cyclones expected to develop over the next few days. Dora remains a powerful hurricane in the central Pacific well south of Hawaii but is expected to remain over water. Saharan dust is still present across much of the Atlantic limiting tropical development. But as this dust goes away over the coming weeks, very warm water temperatures could mean an uptick in tropical activity...stay tuned.

Rain chances remain very slim and temperatures will stay in the 100s for this week. Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories continue for the FOX 26 area today and are expected to be extended for tomorrow. All of SE Texas will be under a Heat Advisory until 9 PM Tuesday. That means heat index values will still likely be around 108-112 through Tuesday evening. Get ready for more heat alerts likely coming for the rest of the week. This stubborn pattern of mainly hot and dry weather will persist through the rest of the week. That means drought and fire conditions are getting worse. Burn bans are in place for much of the area so remember to avoid outdoor burning in this hot and dry pattern. Very little rain is in the forecast with the best shot this weekend as the heat dome shifts west a bit. Be careful in the heat and make sure to check on your family and pets. If your AC goes out, try to find the nearest cooling center. Always remember to hydrate and find shade while outside!

Tropical Weather Forecast - August 7, 2023

For the north Atlantic, Caribbean Sea & Gulf of Mexico, tropical cyclone formation is not expected over the next 7 days. The eastern Pacific, however, remains unsettled with a hurricane, tropical storm and a possible area of development that is being watched. Hurricane Dora remains strong but is passing well south of Hawaii. Tropical Storm Eugene should lose tropical characteristics over the next 24 hours as it moves over cooler waters. Things are still expected to get more active in the Atlantic basin over the coming weeks with August and September being the most active part of hurricane season.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

So far, there is little chance for any relief from the ongoing heat wave. Today will be day 30 of above normal high temperatures and likely day 9 of triple-digit heat. Rain chances are very slim and it isn't until next week that there is any hope for scattered showers. In the tropics, there are two tropical waves in the Atlantic, but nothing of concern.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

No relief in sight with more triple digits and very limited rain chances looking at the week ahead. The Excessive Heat Warning currently lasts until Monday evening but expect that to be extended. Don't let this heat catch you off guard. The forecast has become repetitive, but this is still danger heat outside during the afternoons.
