FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast
Isolated to spotty showers are still possible through early tonight as the outer bands of Tropical Depression Harold still brush across the Houston area. Impacts will be minimal though with most of the heavy rain from Harold across south Texas. Any severe storm threat with Harold should remain to our SW. Look for only isolated rain possible for the rest of the week as we get back to our super hot and mainly dry weather pattern. Many got a break from triple digits today thanks to the effects from Harold. But a stretch of triple digits is expected for the next several days. So continue to practice heat safety and take it easy out there!
Tropical Weather Forecast - August 22, 2023
Harold has weakened to a Tropical Depression with 35 mph winds near Laredo. But Harold was a Tropical Storm this morning when it made landfall around Padre Island with 50 mph winds near 10 AM. Harold brought 3-6" of rain for parts of south Texas with isolated higher amounts and will push into SW Texas and northern Mexico tonight and early Wednesday with a continued flood threat. Spotty downpours are possible for the Houston area through early tonight with just isolated rain possible for the rest of the week. Another Tropical Storm, Franklin, is south of Haiti & the Dominican Republic where tropical storm warnings are in effect. A few additional tropical waves are being monitored in the central and eastern part of the Atlantic.

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast
It's been 23 days straight of triple digit heat but things are about to change...at least for one day! Tropical Depression Nine has popped up in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to become Tropical Storm Harold either tonight or early Tuesday. It should make landfall in south Texas south of Corpus Christi Tuesday morning. So most of the rain and stronger wind should stay away from Houston. But spotty downpours and a few strong storms are still possible during the day Tuesday. Greatest impacts will be felt around coastal areas of Matagorda & Jackson counties where a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect. There will be a higher rip current risk and small craft advisory in place for coastal areas as this tropical system brushes by. It's back to triple digit heat for the rest of the week and little to no rain with record heat likely by Thursday.

Tropical Weather Forecast - August 21, 2023
The tropics have blown up over the last week with several systems we are watching, including a newly formed tropical depression in the Gulf. Tropical Depression #9 is expected to reach the south Texas Gulf coast by Tuesday morning as a tropical storm with 45 mph winds. It should make landfall between Corpus Christi and Brownsville, crossing over Laredo by Tuesday afternoon. The heaviest rain and flood threat should stay south of Houston along with the strongest winds. However, coastal Jackson and Matagorda counties are under a tropical storm watch where winds could gust over 40 mph there and some heavier rain will likely fall. Houston will have more clouds and about a 40% chance for scattered showers and storms. Tropical Storm Franklin will bring heavy rain to Haiti and the Dominican Republic. We are also still tracking Tropical Storm Gert, Post-Tropical Storm Emily and another tropical wave in the Atlantic. The busiest part of hurricane season is here so stay alert
