Hurricane Lee is still a threat to parts of the United States. Not in the short term, but a system that will need to be watched for several more days until confidences increases on where it wants to be next weekend.

Tropical Weather Forecast - September 8, 2023

Hurricane Lee has weakened slightly from a Category 5 but is still a powerful Category 4 Hurricane in the west central Atlantic. It should remain a major hurricane through early next week as it passes north of the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, & Hispaniola. It could still bring some impacts to the Bahamas & east coast of the US next week. But there is still some uncertainty as to whether or not it will head towards the US or make a turn to the north. Regardless, dangerous surf & strong rip currents are likely for parts of the US east coast beginning Sunday. Tropical Storm Margot in the eastern Atlantic is still expected to become a hurricane early next week but should turn north and not impact land.

FOX 26 Saturday evening weather forecast

The rest of the weekend should be quieter than the stormy start Houston saw on Saturday morning. There could be some more rain but less storms to wrap up things on Sunday. A front arrives to southeast Texas towards the end of the week. Look for rain chances to increase and temperatures to drop down to where things should be for this time of year.

FOX 26 Saturday morning weather forecast

After a healthy dose of beneficial rain, albeit a loud one Saturday morning - isolated rain/storms may return this afternoon. Most are heat alert free today, though a Heat Advisory is in effect for our western counties that did not see rain. Next week starts mostly dry, but thankfully less hot. A summer cool front will boost rain chances and decrease temperatures midweek. With the peak of Hurricane Season tomorrow, we have no local concerns but continue to watch Lee and Margot in the Atlantic.

FOX 26 Friday evening weather forecast

Record breaking heat is in the area today with slightly cooler temperatures on the way for next week. Rain chances will also be better over the coming days. In fact a few strong to severe storms are possible for Houston and areas N/NE of Houston through around 9 PM. Winds near 60 mph and quarter size hail will be the main threats. There's also a low Marginal Category 1/5 risk for a few strong to severe storms Saturday, mainly during the morning. Storm are expected to drop south into Houston early Saturday with some gusty winds and small hail possible. But they could also bring some beneficial rain. Rain chances are lower Sunday and Monday but increase again as we go through next week. Temperatures will gradually cool to the mid-low 90s by the middle and end of next week. So slight relief is right around the corner so hang on!

FOX 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Today marks two months straight above average in Houston, with records likely getting obliterated once again today. Our pattern is about to change a bit with a chance for a few storms this afternoon, then possibly overnight. Some storms could bring high wind gusts, briefly heavy rain or small hail. For the weekend, look for scattered showers Saturday and isolated rain Sunday. Temperatures trend down next week and we hang onto daily rain chances. Lee is a powerful Category 4 Hurricane in the Atlantic, with newly formed Tropical Storm Margot not far behind. Neither system poses a threat to the Gulf.
