Houston prepares for rising water in Kingwood

A total of nine high water rescues may prove to be just the beginning of a very wet and potentially destructive weekend. FOX 26's Greg Groogan spoke with Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Fire Chief Sam Pena about preparations for rising water.

Kingwood area residents worried about high water

Residents in Kingwood have been warned to evacuate the area as more rain is expected to fall Thursday night and into the weekend. FOX 26's Jonathan Mejia reports on how residents are dealing with the flooding in the area.

Tonight and Thursday we are in FOX 26 Storm Alert mode with the threat for flooding and a few severe storms. Houston is under a Flood Watch until Thursday evening with 2-4" of rain possible & isolated higher amounts. Look for a few storms tonight with a big line of heavy rain and storms Thursday morning from 4-11 AM. Biggest flood threat will be north of I-10 with a moderate risk for flooding. Flood risk will be lower towards the coast. Houston is in a 2/5 severe storm risk through Thursday morning with hail and winds near 60 mph the main risks. Spotty downpours could trigger more flooding Friday before rain chances drop to 20% this weekend. Next week will feature less rain and more heat with temperatures in the 90s returning.
