Take it easy today and drink plenty of water. We could see an isolated storm this evening west of I-45. Next week will bring another round of hot and humid weather as students across Houston head back to school. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disorganized showers and storms in the Atlantic. There is a medium chance for development next week.

Tropical update: Tropical wave watched in Atlantic
Debby made another landfall this morning along the south Carolina coast as a tropical storm. Debby has weakened to a tropical depression this evening with 35 mph winds. It still poses a big flash flood threat to parts of the Carolinas, Virginia and parts of the NE U.S. It will finally pick up some speed & move into Canada this weekend. Another tropical wave is being monitored for development in the Eastern Atlantic. It does have a MEDIUM 40% shot to be our next tropical system as it gets closer to the Lesser Antilles next week. It is still several days out from having any potential impacts to the Houston area.

Drink plenty of water, try to stay in the A/C and just take it easy if you have to be outside! Hot and steamy weather continues through next week with slightly better rain chances. Tropical Depression Debby will continue to dump up to 4 to 8" of rain over the Carolinas, Virginia & the NE U.S. through Friday. Another tropical wave is being monitored for development in the Eastern Atlantic. It does have a MEDIUM 40% shot to be our next tropical system as it gets closer to the Lesser Antilles next week. Locally, look for highs near 100 each of the next several days with only slim chances for rain. Air quality will be affected by ozone and some very light smoky haze. There is also some light ragweed pollen present. Tropical Storm Debby has weakened, but it still bringing the risk for heavy rain for South and north Carolina as well as Virginia today and tomorrow. Elsewhere in the tropics, everything is quiet for now.

Debby remains parked over the Carolinas through Friday but finally moved out to the NE US by this weekend. Tropical wave in the east-central Caribbean still has a low 30% chance for development over the next seven days and is forecast to push into the southern Gulf of Mexico over the next week. There are no indications it will head towards Houston right now. But keep checking back for updates as we get fine-tune the forecast!

Beginning locally, expect a hot, humid and hazy day with highs in the upper 90s, but with hotter weather building in for tomorrow and Thursday. In fact, highs across Texas will head in the 100-105 degree range not counting the heat index. Rain chances, while not zero, do remain limited. Tropical Storm Debby has become a prolific rainmaker after dropping more than a foot of rain in Florida. Today through Thursday, the focus shifts to Georgia and the Carolinas. South Carolina has already received an estimated 10" near the coastline and a lot more is on the way as the storms slowly meanders over the next 2-3 days.
