So far, there are no indications of any tropical systems to threaten our area over the next several days. It's normal to go through quiet periods in the month of July. But by the end of the month and into August, it becomes much more likely that we'll see the season's first hurricane. August and September are typically the busiest months of our hurricane season that runs until the end of November.

A switch in the jet stream pattern this weekend will lead to a higher risk for downpours beginning Saturday afternoon and evening and could last through Sunday.

Friday's weather is going to be much like yesterday with some isolated afternoon storms and warm temperatures in the 90s. It's quiet this morning, but will turn hot and humid in the afternoon.

The atmosphere over the Houston area is not as charged for stormy weather as it has been over the last few days, but a few pop-up storms are still possible on Friday. Isolated amounts of 1-2" are possible, but otherwise it's looking hazy, hot and humid again.

Houstonians are lending a hand to those flood victims through volunteering, donating and even praying. A special mass was held in downtown Houston at Annunciation Church on Thursday evening.

Well, it could take months for Texas families to experience some form of closure as more than 170 people remain missing, nearly a week after those deadly floodwaters rushed in the Texas Hill Country on July 4 as four months of rain fell in just two days over central Texas.

A few pop-up storms are still likely through Thursday evening. Plan on the potential for storms Saturday afternoon with a few heavy ones possible.

The Gulf and Caribbean are still whisper quiet with little to no stormy weather and a continuing flow of Saharan dust. Part of that dust could be noticeable in our sky today. We have had 3 named storms so far this season and hurricane season runs through the end of November.
