Sunny and hot here | Fox 26 Houston Weather Forecast
video

Lots to watch in the world of weather, but most of it isn't here. We're still in our sunny, hot and dry pattern with mild mornings and afternoon highs close to records. Air quality on sunny, calm and dry days like today tend to produce ozone, so if you are very sensitive to air pollution, don't exert yourself outdoors this afternoon. There are currently three tropical systems in the Atlantic Ocean, but none are near land and should not be a concern. A tropical disturbance near the Yucatan and a general messy, unsettled pattern will form over the Gulf of Mexico over the next 7 days (at least). It does not look like the steering currents would favor anything having an impact in Texas, but we'll watch it closely. Florida could see another (less intense) tropical system from the Gulf late this week.

We are enjoying picture perfect weather across Soitheast Texas this weekend. Look for another super pleasant morning Sunday with temperatures in the 60s and low humidity. Weather will be perfect for Texans tailgating before the noon kickoff against the Jaguars Sunday. We then jump to the 90s by the afternoon with loads of sunshine. Temperatures heat up a bit early next week with more humidity before dropping some late week. That's when more clouds and rain chances return. We are closely monitoring the potential for another tropical system to develop in the W. Caribbean and move into the southern Gulf mid-late week. Right now there's a medium 50% chance of this happening. Keep checking back for updates!

Houston is waking up to beautiful weather. Low humidity and clear skies will continue into the afternoon with highs reaching the low-90s. This dry air dominates our skies through the weekend. Now Tropical Storm Helene is bringing round of heavy rain with a major flood threat across the southeastern U.S. today. Good Wednesday morning and happy "hump day". We're looking at a scary forecast for parts of Florida and a beautiful extended outlook for the Houston area. The latest with Helene is that as it passes by Cozumel, it will continue to get stronger and could become a major hurricane tomorrow as it barrels toward the Florida Panhandle and their west coast. Threats will include a significant storm surge, high winds, heavy rain and even a risk for tornadoes. After landfall late Thursday in Florida, Helene will also bring wind and rain to Georgia and points northward. Now, we don't want to get overly excited about changes coming our way, but a "cold front' this afternoon will bring scattered storms followed by slightly lower humidity and lows that should get into the 60s the next few mornings. Our afternoons will still be sunny and hot with highs in the low 90s.

Texas to enjoy cooler temps | Fox 26 Houston Weather Forecast

Good Tuesday morning, everyone. I'm back to the grind...not feeling great, but good enough. Lots to talk about in the world of weather. A developing low in the western Caribbean will almost certainly become a hurricane on Wednesday and hurricane watches are already up for Florida's gulf coast. The system that will become Hurricane Helene is going to bring high winds, storm surge and heavy rain to much of Florida on Thursday and Thursday night. Amazingly, this will mark the 4th hurricane to hit the US Gulf Coast this season and might be the strongest one yet. As far as impacts on Texas, there is great news for us. With the large circulation of the hurricane staying well to our east, a nice, dry north breeze will kick in here and I think there's a great chance we'll wake up to lows in the 60s for a few days - maybe even some low to mid 60s by Friday morning. Today, plan for scattered thunderstorms (a few hefty) between around 2pm and 9pm.

Houston will see a couple more days with warm temperatures and then a weak front will change the pattern. Look scattered showers and storms Tuesday and Wednesday as the front crawls towards southeast Texas. Computer models show the chance for a hurricane in the eastern Gulf of Mexico at the end of the week, but this system will need to be monitored as it forms in the western Caribbean Sea.
