There are still some uncertainties with the track of Tropical Storm Nicholas but confidence is high that Houston will see heavy rains from this system. Much of Southeast Texas is under a FLASH FLOOD WATCH through Tuesday evening. The stronger winds will follow the center of Nicholas' path, so but all of us should expect heavy rains. Tropical Storm Nicholas formed around 10 a.m. Sunday and currently is a weak storm but will increase in its organization and strength. The main concern in Houston is increased winds and heavy rain but looks like it will take a straight shot to Corpus Christi or Matagorda County, or somewhere in between. Confidence is high that a tropical storm will form in the southern Gulf and move towards southeast Texas. This system will bring heavy rainfall, especially for areas close to the coast. The exact track is not clear which makes it tough to know for certain how much wind to expect and placement of the heaviest rainfall. Right now it looks like the worst of the soaking rains will happen on Monday and Tuesday.

Confidence continues to increase for heavy rain around the Houston area on Monday and Tuesday. The exact location is not known but we also think the downpours could carry over into Wednesday as well. But look for a fantastic start to the weekend with mostly sunny skies and warm afternoon temperatures on Saturday. We will watch the Gulf on Sunday for more development as we prepare for rain that evening.

We are still watching a tropical wave over the western Caribbean as it is expected to move across the Yucatan peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico by Sunday. There is a good chance it will develop into a tropical depression producing heavy rains in the western Gulf and Southeast Texas through Tuesday. If you are in Houston, stay connect with us on Monday and Tuesday for potential street flooding in isolated areas.

Mindy has made landfall and moved off the coast of the Carolinas. Larry is still a hurricane and starting to speed up towards the Canadian coast. Here in Houston, we are definitely monitoring the Gulf for some changes happening towards the end of the weekend and into next week.

Tropical Storm Mindy has formed in the eastern Gulf of Mexico with winds at 40mph. The storm will cross over Florida Thursday morning and move out into the Atlantic Ocean. It will have no impact on SE Texas and the Houston area.
Tropical Weather Forecast - September 5, 2021
Not much changes from the Sunday afternoon tropical update. The National Hurricane Center is still watching disorganized storms over the Yucatan Peninsula but still only giving it a 30% chance for tropical development over the next 5 days, 0% over the next 2 days. If Invest 91L develops into something more organized, it would head towards Florida and the eastern Gulf. Currently, Houston is not expecting any direct impacts with a warm, dry trend mid-end of the week.

Look for fewer showers over the weekend until Labor Day when there will be a chance for showers with the heating of the day. A tropical low may form in the southern Gulf next week and looks to be heading toward Florida. We will watch it closely.

Hurricane Ida will have very little impact on SE Texas, but it will be a devastating storm for Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. It will be a major hurricane with winds of about 130 mph.
