Teen hurt from 'Russian roulette' gunshot
SPRING, Texas (FOX 26) - The gunfire was so unexpected that some neighbors didn't even know what it was.
"I thought it was a nail gun," said neighbor Jason Gay. "They've been doing some construction over there."
It wasn't a nail gun -- it was a real gun.
According to the man who rents the home, his 15-year-old son JJ and another 15-year-old named Justin were home after spending the night. He says JJ told him that Justin had a gun and was playing Russian roulette when it went off. He says JJ told him it was not the first time Justin had played the dangerous game. investigators won't confirm that story, citing the ages of the boys, but they say it appears the shot was self-inflicted, accidental and happened right in front of the other boy.
"I'm pretty sure it's going to be reflective on his mind the rest of his life," said Harris County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Felipe Rivera. "It's not easy to see somebody with such injuries. I'm sure it's going to affect him the rest of his life if he's human at all."
Investigators did recover a gun, but they wouldn't say where it came from. It almost doesn't matter as the damage is done. Lives have been shattered. The tragedy has neighbors in shock and disbelief.
"It's one thing if they were handling it and it misfired and that's still not smart, but when I heard they were playing that -- ludicrous." said Gay.
