Sir Romeo home from hospital, greeted with Christmas presents

HOUSTON (FOX 26) — Five-year-old Sir Romeo Milam is now out of the hospital and celebrating after an organization collected toys for him for the holidays.

"We are with a group called One Houston - One Hood and what we do is we go out and we mentor gang members and we try to decrease gang violence in the city of Houston," says Gerry Monroe. "Of course, we knew what happened to this young man and you know, all these months he’s been in the hospital and had thirty surgeries and he finally was going to come home, so we just want to make sure he had a good Christmas." 

"I think that this outpouring of love from our organization and from the community will just give this young man a little hope," says Stacy Rayan. "He's fought for his life and now it’s our turn to fight for his." 

While at home with his grandmother and older sister in May, stray bullets went inside their apartment and hit him. Since then, he has had at least thirty surgeries and now his family says they are thankful he is home.

"Just because he is out of the hospital doesn’t mean it ended there," says Lori Milam, Sir Romeo’s grandmother. "You know he's still got some healing to do on the inside. There's certain things he can and can’t do or he'll end up back in the hospital getting surgery, so we are just trying to take it one day at a time."
