A man was found living with the body of his dead girlfriend in Monroe County.

David Hall had been living with her corpse for a month, now, he's under arrest. The neighbors FOX 2 spoke to didn't suspect this. They say the couple kept to themselves. But over the last few weeks - they did notice something strange.

"Upstairs in our hallway facing their house, it kind of looks at the window," said neighbor Katrina Baker.  "Why is this window open in the dead of winter."

Baker and her husband wondered, but didn't know about their neighbor's morbid secret inside that open window until nearly a month later. On New Year's Eve, Monroe police came knocking at their door on Noble Avenue.

"That's when they asked my husband did you smell anything," Baker said. "Do you know where he is, and that type of thing."

Police say people who live nearby complained of a smell and alerted the landlord -who asked officers to check on the house.

When they went inside, they found 56-year-old Kandace Simmons dead inside one of the upper apartment bedrooms.

It is believed the woman had been dead since the beginning of December, but police say her boyfriend Hall continued to live with the corpse trying to conceal the smell with candles.

"That's crazy it is absurd who would do that," Baker said.

Officers eventually tracked hall down at a traffic stop. He has since been charged with concealing the death of an individual, but more charges could be coming depending on the autopsy report.

Police are investigating. Although Hall had warrants out for his arrest including a domestic violence case connected to Simmons - FOX 2 is told police don't suspect foul play.

Simmons had recently suffered from medical issues and preliminary autopsy results show she may have died from natural causes.

Hall is now behind bars on a $50,000 bond.
