Mexican Consulate in Houston prepares for potential mass deportations

As Inauguration Day approaches, the Mexican Consulate in Houston is gearing up to support Mexican nationals in response to President-elect Donald Trump's proposed mass deportations.

What we know:

With just four days until President-elect Donald Trump takes office, the Mexican Consulate in Houston is taking proactive measures to assist Mexican nationals who may be affected by potential deportation policies. The consulate is offering free legal services, resources, and has even launched a new app to aid those in need.

On the Mexican side, officials are also preparing to receive nationals who may be deported, offering resources, and even a pension.

Mexican nationals can access these services without an appointment, and a call center is available for those seeking information or assistance.

The consulate has enlisted U.S. attorneys to provide free legal advice to Mexicans facing legal issues.

In anticipation of potential deportations, the consulate has launched an app designed to alert consulates and families if someone is facing immediate deportation.

Additionally, the consulate is facilitating the process for those interested in obtaining dual nationality, a measure aimed at families who may be separated or considering voluntary return to Mexico.

What they're saying:

"The protection of Mexican nationals has always been a top priority of the Mexican government," said Juan Pablo Cortez, the Mexican Consul for Civil Registry. "This is one of the main tools and resources that Mexico has for its nationals," Cortez said.

"Anyone facing immediate deportation can activate this app," Cortez explained. "It sends a signal directly to the consulates and families, allowing them to react in time."

"For families thinking of returning to Mexico, they can come to the consulate to get their children registered as Mexican nationals," Cortez said.

What you can do:
