Man accused of throwing tools, debris at cars traveling along Florida's Turnpike

Ben Faust said he car was hit by a piece of concrete, as he traveled down Florida's Turnpike.

The Panama City, Florida native said he saw a man on the side of the road, throwing tools and debris at passing cars.

"He appeared to be ripping pieces of the broken asphalt of the shoulder of the road and flinging them at cars," Faust said.

Faust's vehicle, and four others, were damaged Monday night, just after 11 p.m.  Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol said 25-year-old Francisco Rodulfo Ramirez threw hammers, shears and screw drivers at cars while standing on the side of the turnpike.

The 911 calls came in from those who claimed to have witnessed the incident along the roadway, near Minneola.  Faust said he pulled over and told Rameriz to knock it off.

"I told him to go back to where his back pack was and sit down and be quiet. He walked back there and sat down on the side of the road," Faust explained.

Ramirez was arrested and booked into the Lake County Jail.  He faces five counts of throwing a deadly missile at an occupied vehicle.
