Humble officer shot in the chest drives himself to hospital

An Humble officer who was shot in the Wednesday after a robbery ended up driving himself to the hospital. Police say officers were dispatched to a robbery after midnight at a home located on North Avenue D in Humble. 

Officers say that a suspect had fled the scene in a black Chevy Camaro.  Officers then chased the suspect vehicle, which came to a stop at Papas BBQ on Highway 59 after it struck a parked vehicle. The driver of the suspect vehicle then fled on foot, running into the parking area of Taqueria Arandas. Officers then tried to tase the suspect, but it wasn't effective. When officers continued to pursue the man, the suspect pulled out a gun and began firing, striking an Humble officer in the chest. The two officers then returned fire, striking the suspect in the pelvic area.

After the Humble officer was shot in the chest, he drove himself to Memorial Herman Northeast Medical Center while the other officer on the scene detained the suspect. The Humble officer was then released from the hospital this morning.
